Hair loss can be the result from many factors
These include thyroid disease, high fever, bad diet, childbirth and some medications. Burns & other causes of scalp scarring can also cause permanent hair loss which some people may wish to be covered in hair.
Stress is also a possability but only implicated in certain, relatively uncommon, instances. Alopecia areata is not a common condition, involving patches of hairloss that is caused by problems with the immune system.
Is the hair transplant procedure safe?
Yes it is. Hair transplantation has a well justified reputation of being a safe solution for thinning hair in men and women. Only a few patients have experienced any minor side-effect such as initial swelling and/or temporary numbness in the transplant area. Minor bruising is also very uncommon.
Complications are very unusual but may include a minor infection at the graft site. This easily responds to antibiotics. |

When and why should I start my hair loss treatment?
At any age! Hair transplant surgery is very effective for the treatment of thinning hair. If your hair is thinning, it is better to start before you are completely bald so that you are able to use existing hair to camouflage the procedures. However, because hairloss tends to be gradual and progressive, it is often not wise to begin with the surgical solution with young patients.
Medical treatments such as Finasteride and Minoxidil could be offered to some men with mild to moderate hairloss. It helps to preserve thinning hair in the crown area. Hair transplants may be performed to fill-in the hairline at the front & thicken the front portion of the scalp. Medical solutions may also be used to maintain the remaining hair behind the transplants & could enhance the results of hair restoration surgery.
Is the thinning hair surgical procedure painful?
No. The hair transplant procedure is carried out under a local anesthetic and with mild sedation (which makes you feel drowsy but still awake) so there is no discomfort felt during the procedure. Mild analgesics will be provided afterwards to relieve any minor discomfort that may be felt over the following 24-48 hours.
Ice packs may also be used during the first 48hours post procedure. It should minimise any swelling that could occur. |
